Resident Led Fundraising Efforts!

Mary is one of our much-loved residents at Caraway House and has recently raised an incredible £175 for the Make-A-Wish Foundation by selling her own handmade cards and jewellery. With gentle encouragement from Trena, our Wellbeing and Lifestyle Lead, Mary has rediscovered her love for crafting and in doing so, brought a wonderful sense of purpose and joy not only to herself, but to those around her.

You may remember Mary from one of our previous news articles. She’s always been a quiet and thoughtful lady, happy to join in with activities, but rarely one to seek the spotlight. It was during her regular one-to-one chats with Trena that Mary spoke about her past hobby of card-making and jewellery design. Years ago, she had her own stall at local arts and crafts fairs, where she raised funds for various charities.

Since April, with renewed confidence and the support of the Caraway House team, Mary has been teaching other residents how to create beautiful handmade cards using the intricate art of quilling. This has created an incredible sense of community between our residents and helped them build new relationships. Her jewellery pieces have also proved hugely popular. A dedicated display table was set up in the Bistro, where visitors, staff and families can view and purchase her unique creations.

After learning more about the Make-A-Wish Foundation, which supports seriously ill children across the UK, Mary chose it as the perfect charity to support. Thanks to her hard work and creativity, she’s already raised £175 and with demand still high, she’s busily crafting more pieces every week.

Mary’s story is a beautiful reminder that it’s never too late to rekindle a passion or start something new. Her generosity, kindness and skill have brought happiness not only to the children who will benefit from her fundraising, but also to our community here at Caraway House.
