Celebrating Our Volunteers at Caraway House

At Caraway House, being part of the wider community is essential to the way we run. Over the past few months, we’ve been delighted to welcome a growing number of volunteers through our doors, each bringing something truly special to our home. From relaxing therapies to heartwarming conversations, their presence always makes a lasting impression on our residents and staff alike.

One of the most inspiring parts of this new chapter has been our regular visits from the TOC Group, a local organisation that supports young adults with disabilities in developing skills to live and work independently. Every Monday, members of TOC join us at Caraway House to spend time with our residents. Whether it’s sharing stories, taking part in an activity, or simply sitting together for a chat, there is something for everybody to get involved in. Our volunteers range from 18 to 70 and represent a wonderful mix of personalities and backgrounds, helping to create a sense of connection between the generations.

The TOC Group’s visits offer our residents extra one-to-one time and fresh social interaction and give the young volunteers a chance to grow in confidence, build their independence and feel valued as part of the Caraway community. It’s a two-way exchange that brings joy, learning, and a deep sense of purpose for everyone involved.

We’ve also had the pleasure of welcoming Trisha, a talented and compassionate local volunteer who comes in every Friday morning to offer hand and foot massages to both residents and staff. Using a selection of calming aromatherapy oils, Trisha creates a truly relaxing experience. Her visits have quickly become a highlight of the week and many residents always look forward to their next gentle massage and chat with Trisha.

These volunteer partnerships have been introduced as part of our ongoing commitment to making Caraway House a warm and inclusive place where community bonds can flourish. It’s a way for us to open our doors to those who wish to give back and in return, our residents gain meaningful new connections, joyful moments, and opportunities to engage with the world around them.
