A Heartfelt Remembrance Service

This month at Caraway House, we came together to mark a deeply meaningful occasion—our first-ever Remembrance Day as a home. It was an opportunity for residents, their loved ones, and staff to honour the men and women who served in the armed forces, reflecting on their sacrifices and the impact they’ve had on our lives today.

Residents were given the choice to either attend the local Remembrance Day service at St Peter’s Church in Selsey, where the British Legion marched through the streets or watch the service on the big screen in Caraway’s Cinema Room with friends and family. In the end, all of our residents chose to stay and commemorate the day in the comfort of our home, surrounded by their loved ones.

To make the day even more special, our home was beautifully decorated with a display crafted by our residents during the week in our Arts & Crafts classes. Together, they created handmade poppies, which were proudly showcased on our display board. Every resident and staff member held a poppy for a photograph, and these touching images became the centrepiece of our tribute. Many of our residents remarked on how meaningful it was to contribute to this visual remembrance.

The service was streamed live for everyone in the Cinema Room, where residents, family, and friends gathered to watch with a warm cup of tea and a slice of apple cake, baked with apples that were generously gifted from the Hidden Garden.

After what was an emotional morning, everyone enjoyed a delicious roast beef dinner prepared by our talented head chef, Chloe. Residents dined in our elegant fine dining room, and enjoyed chatting with each other and the team. It was a wonderful way to end the day, filled with warmth, respect, and community.

Remembrance Day at Caraway House wasn’t just a time to look back—it was a moment for the entire Caraway community to come together and honour the bravery of those who served for us. For our residents, it provided a chance to feel deeply connected to the traditions of the day while being surrounded by the people who care for them most.

At Caraway House, we are proud to remember and respect the legacy of those who fought in the war, and we look forward to continuing this tradition in the years to come.
