Nestled in the heart of Selsey, Caraway House Care Home is surrounded by beautifully landscaped and terraced gardens, which are the perfect place for residents to take a peaceful stroll, enjoy a sunny afternoon, or get involved in garden activities. Our outdoor areas are level throughout, making them easy to navigate and safe for residents with varied mobility.

With shaded spots, shelter from the wind and features like the veranda adjoining our private dining area, the outside spaces offer year-round comfort, even during light rain or chillier days. Residents are encouraged to make our garden areas feel like home and many choose to personalise the area outside their ground-floor bedrooms with garden furniture or potted plants of their choosing. The lounge doors leading to the garden remain open on warmer days, inviting a gentle, free-flowing connection to nature throughout our home.

A Secure and Accessible Outdoor Space

Our gardens are fully enclosed, offering a safe and secure environment for residents, families, and friends to enjoy peace of mind together. One side of the home has ground-floor suites that open directly to the garden, giving those residents easy and private access to fresh air when they want it.

Residents are welcome to request outdoor seating whenever they like, ensuring everyone can comfortably enjoy the space. With sheltered areas throughout and easy access from all main communal areas, the garden is ready to be enjoyed in all seasons if residents wish. This accessibility ensures they can connect with the outdoors safely and independently, enhancing their well-being and quality of life.

When the sun is shining, the garden becomes a lively space for all kinds of activities, from quiet reading and group games to shared meals outdoors. We also offer regular trips to the beach, which provide residents with a refreshing change of scenery and the opportunity to enjoy the sea air.

A Hub For Gardening and Activities

At Caraway House, we celebrate the therapeutic and social benefits of meaningful outdoor activity and connection to nature. We host a relaxed but active gardening club once or twice a month, which includes tabletop gardening for those who prefer seated activities. Residents love planting hanging baskets, choosing decorative plants and even having their own pots to care for. Residents are always involved in deciding the seasonal layout of the garden and contributions from everyone are welcome and encouraged.

We’ve partnered with The Hidden Garden, a nearby local project, which our residents regularly visit. For those who are hesitant or unable to go outdoors, our Activities Coordinator ensures no one feels left out by bringing activities inside or sitting one-on-one to help each person engage in a way that’s comfortable for them. Residents are also regularly reminded by staff of upcoming outdoor events, ensuring they don’t miss anything they want to get involved in.

We ensure out residents have regular opportunities to get outside, breathe in the fresh air and take part in outdoor activities whilst enjoying the beauty of nature. This is highly important for our residents’ wellbeing as well as physical health.

We have plenty of outdoor activities such as walking, gardening, lawn games and when the weather permits, residents can dine Al Fresco, socialising with loved ones, enjoying live entertainment.

Yes, our gardens are accessible to everyone; we have wheelchair accessible paths and seated furniture. Our private garden is safe and secure with proper fencing and gates, preventing residents to go beyond the garden walls. Our walking paths are well maintained and there is lighting around along with other safety features to help prevent falls or other accidents.
