Care Questions

Residential care is living with us in our accommodation with 24-hour supervision, especially for those who need extra help and support with mobility or personal care. Nursing care in Selsey is very similar in terms of providing 24-hour care and support, however the main difference is the assistance from a registered general nurse who is available both day and night to provide more detailed medical care.

All of our care plans are tailored to each individual and are assessed regularly to make sure they continue to fulfil a resident’s needs. We understand that people’s health and well-being needs can change over time, so our care is tailored to adapt to this. We work together with the resident and their family member to create a personalised care plan that is ideal for them and if it needs changing over time, this can be done with ease.

Through excellent, person-centred care to help remove any daily stresses associated with mobility, personal care or medical needs. We also support emotional wellbeing, physical and mental health through all-inclusive activities and facilities, meaning that residents can socialise with one another, learn new skills, gain new experiences and continue with their hobbies regularly.

Yes, we provide respite care for those who need a break from their caring duties or who require some rehabilitation for themself. As with all care, we carry out a pre-admission evaluation to ensure that the best type of care is given.

Finance Questions

There are multiple methods for paying your care home fees. If the individual has been assessed as having eligible care needs and limited financial resources then the local authority might be able to cover all or part of their care home fees – the amount of funding will all depend on the individual’s means. If the individual has more complex matters, that require full time nursing care, they might be eligible for NHS continuing healthcare funding, this then covers the full cost of care, including accommodation and personal care. If the individual has sufficient income, savings or assets, then they might be required to pay for their care home fees themselves. In some cases, family members may choose to contribute towards the cost of care. Additionally, an individual’s care home fees might be paid for by a combination of sources, like the local authority funding and self-funding.

Because we are an all-inclusive care home, your weekly fees will include your accommodation, all meals, snacks, drinks, any activities you participate in, in-house facilities and local excursions (some may have an additional charge depending on the excursion and location). All care and support needs are also included within your weekly fees, although some additional medical services such as dental care or chiropody may come at an extra cost. We will always try to accommodate all of our residents’ needs, yet some may incur additional charges.

If you’re having financial difficulties, we want to help you in any way we can, whether that’s looking for a different finance option or relocating you or your loved one to a smaller suite inside the home. For more information on this, speak to one of our team members today.

From the date of the death, all fees associated with the Care Agreement shall be terminated. Accommodation charges will be paid for up to 10 days from the date of death or until the home is emptied of any personal belongings.

If your care home fee costs more than what your local council is willing to pay, then someone else can make up the difference between that figure and home’s fee, i.e. a family member.

In England, care home fees are assessed based on the individual’s care needs and financial situation.

The assessment of care needs is carried out by the local authority, which will determine the level of care required and the type of care home that is appropriate. The financial assessment is also carried out by the local authority or by an independent financial advisor. It will take into account the individual’s income, savings, and assets to determine whether they need to contribute towards the cost of their care.

If the individual’s assets and income are below a certain level, they may be entitled to financial support from the local authority to help pay for their care home fees.

If an individual is deemed eligible for NHS Continuing Healthcare, their care will be fully funded by the NHS. It’s important to note that eligibility for NHS Continuing Healthcare is not based on a specific diagnosis or condition, but based on an individual’s overall care needs and the level of support required to meet those needs.

Fees are reviewed annually and any changes will be advised at least 4 weeks in advance. For further information, please contact us.

General Questions

A dedicated activities coordinator is important in a care home because they bring vibrancy and fulfilment to residents’ lives by planning and tailoring meaningful activities that enhance physical and mental well-being, encourage social connection, and foster a sense of purpose. At Caraway House Care Home, our coordinators design a variety of group and individual activities to suit different interests, abilities and care needs. Their inclusive approach ensures everyone feels valued and engaged, helping residents to maintain their identity and enjoy a welcoming home environment where every day feels stimulating and special.

Sensory stimulation offers significant benefits for older adults, especially those living with dementia, by supporting cognitive function, memory and emotional well-being. Engaging the senses through different means can help improve mood and encourage social connection even for those with limited verbal skills. These activities also maintain fine motor skills, promote calmness, and enhance quality of sleep, all of which contribute to better daily living and overall quality of life. At Caraway House Care Home, sensory activities are thoughtfully integrated into daily routines to support each resident’s unique needs, helping them stay relaxed while fostering meaningful social bonds and a sense of purpose.
